Joe Lynn Turner habla sobre Rainbow y Ritchie Blackmore
Interesante entrevista publicada en glam-metal.
Joe Lynn Turner who is the vocalist for the super-project “Big Noize,” will be playing a handful of shows including the one here in Blasdell, NY (outside of Buffalo) on Thursday March 27th. Joe is one of the most revered and truly amazing rock singers who has quite a resume backing him. He sang with both legendary bands Rainbow and Deep Purple and has 10 solo CD’s to his credit with the last one being released in 2007 called “Second Hand Life.” Joe took some time to talk to us here at GlamMetal.com. Joe was very candid and talked about everything from how he got involved with Turkish guitar virtuoso Cem Koksal to what his influences were growing up. Let’s make some Noize….
Gus: How did you get involved with this all star cast called “Big Noize?”
JLT: The idea was inspired by another band of classic rock musicians called The Hollywood All Stars. A benefactor located in Franklin, Tennessee who is also a big rock fan, wanted to put something similar together where the band members all had a related past. A lot of phone calls and emails later, we all met in Tennessee where we did two private showcases. One of these was recorded for a DVD and video to promote the band to talent buyers and promoters. Initially, Big Noize started as a project to play corporate gigs and festivals but we have had a blast playing a couple clubs thus far. Because all of us have jam-packed schedules between solo work and countless other projects, scheduling these types of shows can be a bit of a nightmare but when we do it, we like to try and get a 4-date “run” together like we have this time.
Here are the dates on this upcoming 3 state Northeast USA run that I hope you can tell your readers about:
March 26
Mulcahy's
Wantagh, Long Island, NY
March 27
Club Paradise
Buffalo, NY
March 28
Crocodile Rock
Allentown, PA
March 29
Dexter's Entertainment Complex
Riverdale, NJ
Gus: There are only a handful of dates that are in support of Big Noize. Will more be added?
JLT: The reason why there are not many is because of the scheduling issue I mentioned. Our booking agent, Sullivan Bigg, has had a lot of interest for various venues and some festivals but finding the dates when all of us are available is the challenge. By the way…if anyone reading this has a serious business opportunity for Big Noize, Sullivan’s email is: [email protected]
Gus: Will there be any new music coming from Big Noize and if so when do you see it being released?
JLT: Yes we do plan to write and record some originals down the road. I am not sure when they would be done or released and I know I keep mentioning the schedule situation but that is really the only thing holding us back. And when I say that, I mean we are involved in other endeavors that we love just as much. I have to write and record 2 albums this year (Sunstorm and solo) as it is and my summer is jam packed with live dates.
Gus: You just released your 10th solo CD called “Second Hand Life.” With the music business the way it is, tell us how fulfilling it is too be able to make the music you want to make?
JLT: I am living the dream and I feel lucky, blessed and thankful that fans want to hear this genre of music and that I am healthy enough to keep making it.
Gus: Who were your influences growing up (who were you listening to)?
JLT: I had so many! Hendrix was probably the biggest over all. Then there was Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Free and Bad Company. My first real serious band that was extremely popular in Northern, NJ was called Ezra and we did covers by those bands I mentioned and more. Then, to end up working with Deep Purple later in my life was very surreal.
Gus: How is your relationship with Ritchie Blackmore and do you ever see a Rainbow reunion with yourself included?
JLT: My relationship with Ritchie is good but he seems professionally and personally committed to Blackmore’s Night and that genre of music which he absolutely loves. He is probably living his dream and I admire him for having the guts years ago to branch out and be so successful with that concept. Because of his devotion to Blackmore’s Night, I am not sure what he thinks about re-forming Rainbow. If he were to ever do so, I would love to join the reunion and work with Blackmore again.
Gus: You have worked with numerous artists and projects over your career. What is your most proudest artistic accomplishment to date?
JLT: I am going to answer you very honestly and that is…none. Here’s why: all my accomplishments have been special in their own way…like children. I do not know of any parent who would list one of many children as the one they are MOST proud of. So, I am not any prouder of one thing than I am another.
Gus: How did you get involved with Turkish neo-classical guitarist and composer Cem Koskal?
JLT: If I remember correctly, it as through an email exchange via my Virtual Assistant, Lisa Walker and my manager, Mark Wexler. She screens all these potential opportunities and my manager looks into them. When the chance to work with Cem came up and after a bit of research and checking out his music and talent, it seemed like a great match. Now, I consider my tour of Turkey with Cem awhile back to be one of the most life-changing experiences ever. It was phenomenal. And, I am going back there this summer for some more dates. I can’t wait! Cem is awesome and the fans there rock!
Gus: What do you like to do when you have down time?
JLT: Sleep! LOL!! Seriously, it seems once I get back to a slight routine I am traveling in another country or deeply involved with sessions. So, sleep is a true luxury and important to keep the voice in shape. I also try and stay healthy exercise and relaxation that includes listening to relaxing music as opposed to rock and roll.
Gus: Joe, any closing thoughts you want to say to our GlamMetal readers out there?
JLT: I would like to invite them all out to see Big Noize and any other JLT shows. I look forward to seeing the Glam Metal people at our show in Buffalo, NY. I thank all the fans from the bottom of my heart for their loyal support over the years. It’s what keeps me going!
